Library Summer Reading Program
Kids of any age up to 12th grade may register at either library beginning Monday, June 1, 2015, to count the days they read or listen to someone read books or magazines this summer and win prizes. This year’s prizes include: book bags, books, food coupons, tickets to swim at the COOL! Pool, Blueberry Meadows coupons, and more. All prizes must be picked up by August 22.
The Library offers programs every week on a wide variety of topics, from history and language to science and art. Programs take place during mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays. In keeping with this summer’s theme of “Every Hero Has a Story,” there are three programs for all ages at the Main Library:
- Saturday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m. – the Knights in Shining Armor will present a demonstration of sword fighting and chivalry for the whole family.
And, to highlight our local heroes in the present day:
- Thursday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. – Albany Fire Department will bring a fire truck to Story Time.
- Thursday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. – Albany Police Dog Jager and Officer Nate Ard will visit Story Time.
Teen Volunteers: Students who have completed 6th grade may work as Summer Volunteers assisting with children’s programs. Pick up a Youth Volunteer Application at either library and return the completed form by Monday, June 29, in order to attend the mandatory orientation on Tuesday, June 30, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. or on Tuesday, July 7, from 4:30 to 6:00 at the Main Library.
Teen Marionette Troupe: Students who are going into 6th through 12th grade may join the Marionette Troupe at the Carnegie Library to put on shows for young children in August. Mandatory rehearsals are Thursday, August 6, and Monday, August 10, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. Registration forms are available at either library or on our website on the Young Adult page.
