Get to Know Oregon Airlie Winery

AIRLIE WINERY
SERIOUS WHITES & ELEGANT REDS since 1986

Philosophy and History

PHILOSOPHY

From farming principles, to treatment of employees, customers, vendors and the animals we share our homes with, sustainability and relationships consume us. We believe in a lifestyle that combines work with play, a dedication to our craft with commitment to share our good fortune with others. A dream lived is a wonderful thing!

Expect to be NUDGED when you visit. All tasting fees (you determine the amount) are donated to local food banks. On sunny days expect conversation and the sharing of your picnic food with fellow tasters. Dogs are welcome to visit along with the humans who feed them.

Our vineyard and winery are certified sustainable, LIVE (Low Input Viticulture & Enology) and Salmon Safe the same is true for BeckenRidge Vineyard supplier of our remaining grapes. Our duty to the earth is to think about the least disruptive practices that will produce the best fruit, thus the best wine.

The town of Airlie has a rich background dating back to the early 1800’s and the Pony Express. Once a Christmas tree farm, the original owners established and began planting Dunn Forest Vineyard in 1983. They founded Airlie Winery in 1986.

I (Mary Olson) purchased Airlie Winery and the estate vineyard in 1997. Our Wine maker Elizabeth Clark joined the Airlie Family in 2005 along with Sue Shay, marketing and sales, 2012. Sebastian, 2003 and Guadalupe 2007 round out the Willamette Valley’s best vineyard crew.

Nestled in the coastal mountain range on the western edge of the Willamette Valley, the inviting setting, complete with a picnic area and pond, extends any plans for just a brief stop. Located in the Heart of Willamette Valley, Corvallis, Salem, Albany, Dallas and Monmouth are just a short drive away.

Thirty acres of grapes consisting of eight varietals: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, Müller Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Maréchal Foch, and Muscat Ottonel make up sixty-five percent of the grapes used in making Airlie Wines. BeckenRidge Vineyard, located 20 miles away west of Dallas Oregon, supplies the remaining grapes. BeckenRidge is more than a supplier, they are friends as well. I buy their grapes and they sell my wines at their event center Visit the BeckenRidge Website.

Please visit the Airlie Website for more information and to order wine!!!

Get to Know Oregon Portland Christmas Ships Parade

859182_623083644415050_1765963836_o-1

2014 will mark the 60th anniversary of Portland’s Christmas Ships Parade. Last year we had 59 ships registered for the year’s event, of which seven of those were new skippers, and at least eight were skippers that have been participating for more than 20 consecutive years. We had ships over 50′ long, and ships that pushed 18′ in length with all the enthusiasm of full size cruise ships. We did not lack for diversity in our fleet, nor for the true can-do spirit that makes this the most amazing Christmas Ships parade in all of the world. Our 60th Anniversary year should see a continued enthusiasm for providing one of the Portland area’s most enduring events.

Cyber Monday Safety Tips!!

Avoid-The-Cyber-Monday-Trap-Tips-For-Safe-Online-Shopping-Infographic

Cyber Monday: Five Tips for Safe Online Holiday Shopping
Nov. 26, 2012
By JOANNA STERN

Before you fork over your credit card number and other info, make sure you’re following these five safety tips.

1. Make sure you are buying from a secure site.
“The first thing you want to do is look at the URL and make sure it says HTTPS,” says Natalie Severino, a security expert at Trend Micro. Along with the HTTPS in the web address you want to make sure you see the small padlock icon in the address bar when you get to the payment steps. Both of those will indicate that you are shopping on a secure site, which has a trusted and safe backend system.

2. Make sure your security software is up to date.
It seems like the obvious and boring tip, but it really is important. Every security expert we spoke with stressed that keeping the anti-virus software up to date and running should stop you from going to an unsafe shopping site.

3. Don’t trust all those emails.
If you’re like any of us, your inbox is flooded with more “great Cyber Monday deal” messages than you can stand. But not all those emails are safe. “Some of the emails and the deals seem too good to be true. And they are,” says Claudia Lombana, PayPal’s Shopping Specialist. “The best thing to do is not to click the link, and go to a new webpage and try and go to it that way. It is only clicking links from those direct e-mail sources that can get you in trouble.”

4. Use a different password at every site.
If you can learn anything from this year’s online security disasters it is never use the same password across your accounts or sites. If you are prompted to sign up for a new account to make a purchase make sure to create a new password. Both Lombana and Severino suggested a password with a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Christina stressed to stay away from your name and family names; social media has made those passwords easier to crack.

5. Be even more mindful when shopping on your phone or tablet.
According to PayPal, there was a 193 percent increase in mobile shopping on Black Friday 2012 over last year. And that’s just the start — the number of people shopping on their phone or tablet this holiday season is only going to go up. The experts say, however, that those mobile shoppers need to be even more vigilant about security. “The number one thing when shopping on a mobile device is to password-protect the phone or tablet,” Lombana said. Also, make sure to keep in mind all the other tips and always make purchases over a secure and password-protected WiFi network.
